Google Search goes after fraudulent and manipulative DMCA takedown requests

Google has recently filed a lawsuit in the northern district of California against two individuals for allegedly abusing the DMCA takedown request mechanism in an attempt to remove competitor URLs from the search results. According to the lawsuit, the defendants misused the copyright law’s notice-and-takedown process to have legitimate content of their competitors removed based on false allegations, rather than for its intended purpose of expeditiously removing infringing content.
