Microsoft Bing adds new Deep Search generative AI feature

Image
Microsoft has introduced a new feature called Deep Search, designed to assist users in finding comprehensive answers to complex questions that don't have straightforward solutions. Powered by GPT-4, Deep Search is an optional generative AI feature built on top of Bing's web index and ranking system. It utilizes a combination of querying techniques to surface results that wouldn't typically appear in regular search results. Deep Search is capable of identifying various relevant search terms related to a query, even if they don't explicitly include the original keywords. This enables it to find results that cover different aspects of the query, offering more informative and specific results than those that rank higher in normal search. Deep Search will not load as quickly as regular search results, with a completion time of up to 30 seconds, which may deter some users due to the delay. While the feature is in testing, it is only available to randomly selected small gr...

Microsoft rebrands Bing Chat as Copilot

Image
Microsoft's Bing Chat has rebranded to Copilot, aligning itself with other Microsoft AI products. The AI-powered chat service has handled over 1 billion prompts and queries since its launch. While Bing Chat was initially marketed as "your AI-powered copilot for the web," it will now be referred to as CoPilot and will continue to offer a combined Search and chat experience. For individuals who prefer a standalone chat experience, Copilot will have its own ChatGPT-style website. Despite the initial hype surrounding Bing Chat's launch, it failed to capture market share from competitors such as Google, allowing the latter to dictate the rules, direction, and costs of web search. Microsoft has stated that the rebrand is aimed at unifying the Copilot experience and making it more accessible to users. The rebranded Bing Chat Enterprise, now known as Copilot Pro, will offer the same chat functionality with enhanced commercial data protection for Microsoft 365 subscribers. ...

Bing adds AI-generation captions to some search result snippets

Image
Bing has recently made an announcement stating that it is now using AI to produce snippets for some of its search results. By utilizing GPT-4, Bing aims to enhance the relevance and informativeness of search results, helping users locate websites more efficiently. This move is part of Bing's ongoing efforts to provide an improved search experience for its users. Users can identify the AI-generated captions by clicking on the arrow next to the title link in the search results. These captions are labeled as "AI-Generated Caption," as shown in a screenshot provided in the article. The AI-generated captions are created using GPT-4, which analyzes the user's search query and extracts relevant insights from web pages to generate easily digestible and highly relevant snippets. These snippets are tailored to each unique search query and may vary for different queries. While the generated text may not exactly mirror the wording found on the webpage, Bing assures users that...
